Scrambling Snowdonia, North Wales
Scrambling is the link between walking and climbing, it involves more use of the hands to get to the top of the mountain. Northern Snowdonia is one of the best places to scramble in the UK. There are lots of scrambling routes and relatively easy access, some almost from the road! In its basic form it involves no rope use and relies on group members "spotting" one another to prevent slips becoming falls. As height and difficulty increase then so does the rope. On harder scrambles climbers are permanently roped up. We offer 3 types of activity.
- Guided Scrambles: You will be safeguarded by an instructor and the aim is to cover as much ground as possible.
- Basic Learn to Scramble: Learn to look after yourself on grade 1 scrambles.
- Advanced Scrambling: Learn to look after yourself and others on grade 2 and 3 scrambles.

Advanced Scrambling
Course Details: This course allows you to tackle some of more challenging scrambles in Snowdonia. On grade 2 and 3 scrambles the rope is used more. On grade 2 ground this may just be for the odd steep step. On grade 3 scrambles the rope is used, or is out of the rucksack all of the time. This involves shortening the rope by taking coils around the body. Basic rock climbing skills are used to keep scramblers safe. The course will cover:
- Use of the guide book.
- Risk assessment.
- Taking coils.
- Selecting anchors.
- Building belays.
- Placing gear.
- Retreating off scrambles.
- Holding falls.
All of this cannot realistically be covered in a day. On day courses therefore the content will be tailored to the abilities of the client.
