Scottish Winter Skills Course

Winter MountaineeringThe Scottish highlands is one the most challenging and exciting locations for winter mountaineering. It is a beautiful yet potentially hostile environment with unpredictable weather, remote locations and avalanche risk. A real adventure that demands respect but with rewards that make for the most memorable of days out. Gradient Adventure offers range of courses from one day winter beginners to 5 day winter mountaineering courses for the more experienced.

Scottish Winter Skills Course

Winter skills courses run over 2 days. The aim is to give you the skills and confidence you will need to tackle winter walking days.

During the course you will be taught how and when to use crampons,techniques for walking on steeper slopes, ice axe arrest,step cutting, avalanche awareness and route choice, navigation in poor weather and emergency shelter building.

Location: Scottish Highlands.

Cost: £180 2 days.

Suitability: 18+.

Prior experience: Summer hill walking experience desirable.

Equipment provided: We will provide ice axe and crampons.

Scottish Winter Mountaineering

This is a 5 day course and includes the 2 day winter skills course. It also covers in more detail. The safe ascent and descent of steeper slopes is also covered as well as snow belay techniques. Days 3,4 and 5 should include the ascent of a munro.

Location: Scottish Highlands.

Cost: £360.00

Suitability: 18+.

Prior experience: Summer hill walking experience desirable.

Equipment provided: We will provide ice axe and crampons.
